Flute Adventure: Le Soleil Était Encore Chaud

TOSHIAKI YOKOTA AND THE BEAT GENERATION (横田年昭とビート・ジェネレーション)

TRACKLIST

SYNOPSIS

Released in 1970, Flute Adventure is a remarkable blend of psychedelic jazz, jazz-rock, and Brazilian influences from Japanese flutist Toshiaki Yokota and the Beat Generation. Side A features a four-part suite inspired by the poetry of French writer Arthur Rimbaud, moving through dark, atmospheric passages, adventurous flute improvisations, and driving rhythms. Side B takes a different turn, drawing heavily from Brazilian music with its interpretations of “Samba de Orfeu,” “Orfeu Negro,” and “Reza.” With its mix of experimental arrangements, electric guitar, and rich percussion, the album captures a particularly creative moment in Japan’s early ’70s jazz scene.
