SYNOPSIS
Originally released in 1971 on Polydor Records, Shinki Chen is the debut solo album by Japanese psychedelic rock guitarist Shinki Chen. Recorded with a group of musicians including George Yanagi on bass and vocals, Hiro Yanagida on keyboards, and Shinichi Nogi on drums, the album blends heavy blues rock, acid rock, and experimental psychedelia. Built around Chen’s raw, fuzz-drenched guitar work, the record moves between driving riffs, atmospheric passages, and extended improvisations, culminating in the sprawling “Farewell to Hypocrites.” Released shortly before Chen formed Speed, Glue & Shinki, the album stands as a defining document of Japan’s early underground rock scene.
