SYNOPSIS
Originally released in 1995 on Parallel World Records, Cambodian Rocks is a compilation of psychedelic and garage rock recorded in Cambodia during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Assembled from cassette tapes collected by American traveler Paul Wheeler, the album brings together a remarkable blend of fuzz-driven guitars, swirling organs, infectious rhythms, and expressive Khmer vocals. Featuring artists later identified as Ros Serey Sothea, Sinn Sisamouth, Pan Ron, and Yol Aularong, the music reflects a thriving Cambodian scene that fused Western rock influences with local traditions. Originally issued without artist or song credits, Cambodian Rocks offers a rare glimpse into a vibrant musical culture largely devastated by the Khmer Rouge regime after 1975.
