SYNOPSIS

Originally released in 1973, A Sunflower In Greece is the debut album by Japanese bassist and vocalist Akira Okazawa. Produced by saxophonist Jiro Inagaki and backed by his Soul Media ensemble, the record reveals Okazawa’s remarkable talent as a soul singer. Blending jazz-funk, soul, and pop, the album features rich arrangements, infectious basslines, and expressive vocals, moving effortlessly between original compositions and covers of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On” and Gilbert O’Sullivan’s “Alone Again (Naturally).” Long sought after by collectors, it remains a hidden gem of early-1970s Japanese soul.
