SYNOPSIS
Recorded in 1970, A Jazzy Profile of JOJO captures a different side of Japanese guitarist Takayanagi Masayuki, a musician better known for his fearless explorations of free jazz and avant-garde improvisation. Here, he returns to a more traditional jazz setting, reinterpreting familiar standards with remarkable precision, subtle tension, and a distinctive sense of space. Accompanied by pianist and arranger Takeshi Shibuya, bassist Nagamasa Harada, drummer Hiroshi Yamazaki, and a carefully arranged horn section, Takayanagi moves effortlessly between cool jazz sophistication and his own unconventional musical language. The result is an understated yet fascinating recording that reveals just how deeply his experimental instincts were rooted in the jazz tradition.
